Born in the R o Grande Valley of south Texas, Gloria Anzald a was an internationally acclaimed cultural theorist whose Borderlands/La Frontera helped shape Chicano/a and lesbian and queer theory, and whose anthology This Bridge Called My Back helped build an inclusive, multicultural feminism. This reader samples the poetry, prose, fiction and experimental autobiography of her thirty-year career. More than half the material was previously unpublished, offering new insight into her upbringing, education, teaching, writing practice, health struggles, interest in visual art, and theories of disability, multiculturalism, pedagogy and spiritual activism. Pieces are arranged chronologically with introductions, a glossary, a timeline and bibliographies.
