Chicana lesbian writer Cherríe Moraga, poet, essayist, editor and dramatist, has shaped debates on culture and identity. In the first book-length study of her work, Yvonne Yarbro-Bejarano examines the ‘in-between’ spaces where race, gender, class and sexuality meet, focusing on Moraga’s writing of the body and of sex, desire and pleasure. Three sections analyze her writing of the body, her dramaturgy in relation to Western theatrical traditions, and her writing of identity and racialized desire, through close readings of Loving in the War Years, Giving Up the Ghost, Shadow of a Man, Heroes and Saints, The Last Generation and Waiting in the Wings.
