Scheming Women by Cynthia Hogue

Cynthia Hogue traces American women’s poetic speakers from inside a heterosexual lyric framework to bisexual and lesbian subjects outside it, through close readings of Emily Dickinson, Marianne Moore, H.D. and Adrienne Rich. Extending Julia Kristeva’s theory of poetic language, she argues that these relatively privileged poets undo the poetic power they assert, offering an ethical feminist poetics that refuses hierarchies of class, race and gender.
